Human Resources just went live on Netflix so to celebrate here’s a sexy Pete the Logic Rock calendar I drew as a Christmas present for the crew while we were boarding the first season. Honestly it was an amazing production with an amazing crew, probably one of the most positive experiences of my entire career.
I can believe that in the year 2023 some of the best representation we have for POC, Queer Folks, and people with disabilities is a heckin Big Mouth spinoff.
Been catching up on season 2 of Human Resources with my fiancé. Thus far the thing that impressed us the most was the addition of a disabled character who is not only based on but also voiced by an actual disability rights activist who has the disability depicted in the show.
It’s unfortunate that something like this is so rare. I can only think of a few other examples off the top of my head where we got to see a nuanced and humane depiction of a character with a disability who is played by someone with said disability—and one of those examples is from the goddamn 1932.
Hopefully we’ll start to see more representation like this where the creators have the sensitivity to depict a character with a disability that is not only truthful to the experiences of real people, but let’s then be more than just an object of pity, funny sidekick, or some other form of prop character who exists in service of the plot rather than being a character in their own right.
I know you play like you’re the meanest and the hardest but actually you’re the most scared of all. I know you steal batteries you don’t need, and you push away anyone who’s willing to put up with you because just a little bit of love reminds you how big and empty that hole inside you actually is.
